Hailey Johnson

Hailey Johnson, mezzo-soprano, grew up in Oak Park, a small town in southern California. From a young age, she loved singing, and participated in choirs and musical theater all throughout school. Hailey graduated in May 2011 as a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Some of her projects from this past spring at SFCM include giving a solo senior recital, singing in the ensemble of Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, performing in the Opera Workshop program, and acting as April in Sondheim’s Company.

Professional credits include singing a number of times with the Magik*Magik Orchestra, a Bay Area based group that has collaborated with artists such as Frederica von Stade, Sting, and Third Eye Blind. Hailey can be heard on M*MO recordings with musicians the Dodos and John Vanderslice.

Hailey’s upcoming plans are to give recitals in San Francisco, and to apply to graduate school for a Master of Music degree. She is excited to sing with Opera on Tap!

Hailey would like to thank Donna Young and Maurita “Bunny” Thornburgh for being wonderful voice teachers, and for providing a strong musical foundation. She’d also like to extend gratitude to her current teacher, Catherine Cook. Catherine has been a source of continual guidance and inspiration, both as a singer and as a person. Finally, Hailey is extremely grateful to her family and friends for their unending support and love.
