Our flagship core community outreach program. It’s the one we built our name on. In 22 cities across the country you can find Opera on Tap performers treating audiences to high quality, entertaining casual opera concerts for little to no cost. And it all began here in Brooklyn NY.
A collective of Opera on Tap members that presents original, curated concerts of new music, with a focus on local composers. New Brew has been in residence at Barbes in Brooklyn since 2009. Since that time we have presented works by over 60 composers at these intimate, offbeat salon-style performances.
New Brew is Christopher Berg, Joanie Brittingham, Kayleigh Butcher, Seth Gilman, David Gordon, Alex Guerrero, Anne Hiatt, Michael Hoffman, Sara Noble, Cameron Russell, Kamala Sankaram
Help us reach our 2018 goal of raising $33,000 for the Playground Opera program by making a donation today!
The Playground Operas program is a school day program that immerses students in the creation, production and performance of an opera. With the guidance of professionals working in the field today, students explore the operatic experience from the first moment of an opera’s creation to the exciting culmination of its performance. The stage? Their own schoolyard playground.
This year’s opera is Hansel & Gretel. Your contribution will support the fantastic work of our teaching artists, directors, designers, arrangers, and performers who have already dedicated so much time and energy to making our Playground Opera program a huge success.
Thank you for your support!

We focus on new works that are immersive, innovative, boundary-pushing, entertaining and accessible to a large population with a focus on American personalities and American culture (sometimes pop culture).
The program began in 2012 with our first commission and fully produced opera, SMASHED: The Carrie Nation Story by composer James Barry and librettist Timothy Braun. SMASHED premiered in 2013 at HERE Arts Center and enjoyed a very successful run at the New York International Fringe Festival in August, 2014. We performed to sold-out audiences and were one of 16 productions selected to take part in the Fringe Encore Series at the Soho Playhouse’s Huron Club in September 2014.
Currently, we are developing three new operas:
The Parksville Murders by Kamala Sankaram and Jerre Dye- An episodic horror opera for VR
The Inner Circle, by Daniel Felsenfeld and Kate Gale- An opera based on the life and work of Dr. Alfred Kinsey, A.K.A Dr. Sex
Murder!, by Kamala Sankaram and Rob Reese- An immersive comic murder mystery opera designed for house parties
